The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs from October 15 through December 7. Every year, in the months leading up to AEP, our advice remains the same: the agents who get the most out of this window don’t wait until September to get started. They have their game plan ready in the summer.

With the many upcoming plan changes, this year poses extra challenges for insurance agents to navigate.
Here’s your game plan to ensure you walk into AEP well-prepared:
Don’t wait until September to complete your AHIP and carrier certifications. Complete them simultaneously to save time later in the season. Once AEP opens, your time should be spent with clients, not on paperwork.
You don’t need to be a policy expert, but you do need to have answers ready. Be prepared to help your clients navigate changes such as adjustments to out-of-pocket caps or ACA subsidies, so you can truly be the healthcare advocate they deserve.
Once AEP opens, don't waste your days sifting through disparate data sources to find client information. Spend the coming weeks cleaning up your data and CRM. Identify whose plans are changing and who may be affected by market shifts. This goes beyond administrative housekeeping; it sets you up to protect and nurture your existing client relationships.
With plan designs, networks, and supplemental benefits shifting heavily this year, strong carrier relationships are more valuable than ever. Understanding how each carrier operates and the specific value they bring to different clients will better equip you to match the right people with the right plans. Strengthen those lines of communication before your calendar fills up.
The right technology system takes the load off your plate by handling the manual administrative work that might otherwise fall through the cracks, such as: tracking every client outreach, flagging renewals, and keeping documentation organized for quick reference. Technology that complements your workflow makes the difference between a process that takes minutes instead of weeks, freeing you to focus on selling and relationship-building.
This AEP season is going to ask more of agents than most previous years: more moving pieces, more conversations, more clients who need a steady hand to guide them through the changes. A strong game plan frees you up to be the advocate your clients need, in a year when they'll need it more than usual.
